SkiTrace

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

SkiTrace is built so that your location history stays with you. This page explains what the app stores, what it uploads, and how to get or delete your data.

Your GPS tracks stay on your iPhone

Raw GPS tracks never leave your device. The app matches your tracks to runs and lifts on the phone. When you are signed in, it uploads only the result: which runs and lifts you rode and when, and your daily totals (distance, vertical, time on lifts and in huts, share of the resort explored).

Which runs and lifts you rode and when is visible only to you. Your daily totals appear on resort leaderboards under your username unless you turn off “Show me on leaderboards” in your Profile.

Recording

When you start a recording, the app uses your iPhone's location while it records, also with the screen off, until you finish the day (iOS shows the blue location indicator meanwhile). It never uses your location when you are not recording. The recorded points are stored only on your phone, the same as an imported track: only the matched result of the finished day is uploaded, as described above.

Sharing your position with friends

Friends are added only with a code: one phone shows a short code, the other types it in, and the first one accepts. While you record with Share position with friends turned on, the app uploads your current position about every 40 seconds, with the name of the run or lift you are on. Only the latest position is stored, never a history.

Only your accepted friends can see it, and only while they share their own position too. Your position is deleted from our server when you finish the recording, and after 4 hours at the latest. Nothing is shared when you are not recording or the switch is off.

Profile picture

A profile picture is optional. It is a selfie taken with the front camera; the app never reads your photo library. It is stored on your phone and, when you are signed in, uploaded so your friends see it in their friend list and on the map. It is kept at a web address that is not listed anywhere but that anyone who has it can open. Removing the picture in Profile deletes it from our server too.

Maps

The base map comes from OpenFreeMap and the terrain from Mapterhorn, the runs, lifts and places from our server. Like any web request, these see your IP address and which map area is loaded, but no account or track data. The maps of the resorts you open or record at are kept on your phone (a few MB each), so they also work without a connection.

What is stored on your device

Your ski days, imported tracks, and the resort maps you opened are stored in the app's own storage, so everything works offline. Your sign-in session is kept in the iOS Keychain. Deleting the app removes all of it.

Account

An account is optional. You can sign in with Apple or with an email address and password. We store your email address and your username. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your email: we then receive a private relay address from Apple that forwards to you. If Apple shares your name the first time you sign in, we only use it to make your username (you can change it in Profile); the name itself is not stored. Account data is stored with our database provider, Supabase.

intervals.icu

intervals.icu is not a way to sign in; signed-in users can connect it to import activities (for example from a Garmin). When you connect intervals.icu, the app downloads your ski activities to analyse them on your phone, like any GPX file. The access token and your intervals.icu athlete ID and name are stored on our server so only you can use them. You can disconnect intervals.icu at any time in your Profile.

No tracking or analytics

SkiTrace uses no tracking, third-party analytics, or advertising. Your data is not sold or shared with advertisers.
